The Glass Castle by: Jeannette Walls |
Mahatma Gandhi once said, "I object to violence because when it appears to be good. The good is only temporary;the evil it does is permanent." This quote means that "violence" might seem to be the right answer in some occasions it is still an evil thing to do. People would agree with Gandhi's quote because violence is evil and it is permanent even though it might seem to be good. Violence is most of the time considered as a good action of doing but those who thought it was something good they only think that for not to long because they later realized that they had done some wrong doing and that it was evil. This can be clearly seen in The Glass Castle, because the protagonist goes through really harsh experiences in her childhood dealing with violence from outsiders and from family issues. In The Glass Castle Jeannette Walls struggles with violence in her house and also outside her house. Jeannette and her family fight with the bill collectors, she sees her parents get violent with each other, and she has to fight in order for her to not get raped.
